Our congratulations go to Kwasi Kwarteng, who was voted the new Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the Spelthorne constituency. It was an exciting evening, with Kwasi winning through on the fifth ballot. Cllr Phillipa Broom came second and Michael McManus third. The motion to adopt Kwasi as the Spelthorne PPC was unanimous on the night.
The association Chairman, Graeme Reid, said "Almost two months ago we set about the important task of choosing the best person to represent Spelthorne, and we first came up with a very strong short-list.
"There followed a gruelling campaign including atrocious weather conditions early in January. Yet we achieved a magnificent turnout of over 400 at our primary election, with ordinary electors outnumbering Party members by almost two to one. It was a truly open primary.
"Literally at the very end Kwasi Kwarteng came on and captured the audience’s confidence. With Spelthorne Conservatives united behind him, he is sure to go on and inspire the rest of the electorate."
Kwasi accepted the nomination and said "The first thing I am going to do is talk to as many local residents and obviously those within the party, because they are the people who have endorsed my candidature."
Kwasi will be touring the constituency over the next few weeks and months, getting to know everyone, so please feel free to say hello and let him know of any local issues you have.
We would like to thank everyone who made the evening run so smoothly and successfully and also thank the 5 other candidates, any of whom would have made a great MP for Spelthorne - their hard work and dedication showed on the evening.
